A luxury spa or salon facial is a wonderful treat, but it can be a very expensive as well . There really is no reason that you should limit your pampering relaxation to a once a year indulgence though, as many of the best spa treatments are actually easy to recreate in your own home, including some wonderful facial treatments. All you need is a quiet hour or two, a fluffy robe and some great comfy flip flops, a few of these tips and tricks – and maybe a nice glass of wine in a personalized wine glass for the ultimate luxury – to treat yourself to an effective, and relaxing, home spa facial whenever you like.
At Home Spa Facials
Spas charge a lot of money for all natural facial treatments, however you can give yourself a great spa facial at home, for just a few dollars. The key to a great spa like facial is to begin with well cleansed skin.
There is need for an expensive cleanser, your local supermarket carries everything you need to make a great facial cleaner in your own kitchen. Just like a day at the spa, your pampering facial is broken into several treatments, used consecutively for best results.
Skin Cleanser, for all skin types:
½ Cup of plain yogurt
1 Teaspoon of Sunflower oil
1 ½ teaspoons of fresh lemon juice
This gentle cleanser can actually be used on a daily basis, not just as a part of this spa treatment, which should be repeated once a week for maximum benefit.
Steam Your Face
The next step in your spa facial at home is to steam your freshly cleaned face. Pour boiling water into a basin, and using a thick towel “tent” your head over it. Adding dry herbs to the hot water can add to the spa effect. Peppermint imparts a sense of rejuvenation, while lavender calms and relaxes. Now you are ready for a great mask treatment. Although there are many at home recipes this is one of the best, as it both cleans and tightens the pores.
1 Teaspoon Liquid Honey
1 Teaspoon of dried chamomile flowers
1 Teaspoon of finely chopped mint leaves
Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl and blend to a paste. Apply to the face and neck and allow to dry for ten minutes. You will be amazed by how soft and refreshed your skin feels.
The finishing touch on any great spa facial is a soothing and refining toner. Here are two simple recipes, one for normal skin, and one for those with an oily complexion, again created from simple household ingredients that are both inexpensive and easy to obtain.
Basic Toner (for all skin types)
3 Cups of distilled water
1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar
Mix ingredients together and store in an airtight container. Apply with a dry cotton ball, but avoid the eye area, this really stings!
Chamomile Astringent (Great for Oily Skin)
½ cup chopped mint
2 teaspoons crushed, dried chamomile flowers
4 cups of water
Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan and boil for ten minutes. Remove from the heat and allow the mixture to steep for ten minutes. Stain the liquid into a clean container and store in the refrigerator, where it will keep for up to two weeks. Once again, use cotton balls to apply to the skin.Unique Personalized Gifts for Life’s Special Occasions. Shop Epic Personalized Gifts when an ordinary gift just won't do!
